I just love how creative God is.

“He who made the Pleiades and Orion,
who turns midnight into dawn
and darkens day into night,
who calls for the waters of the sea
and pours them out over the face of the land—
the LORD is his name.” Amos 5:8

I was knee-deep in eggs today. Yes, eggs. Chicken eggs.

A friend gave me 5 1/2 dozen eggs. I made egg salad for my boys lunch, and I made 4 quiches, so that I can give some away, and we have dinner for tomorrow.

I made eggs for my dad and kids last weekend, and We baked some carrot cupcakes too.

Now I’m down to 2 1/2 dozen eggs.

But have you ever thought about how wonderful and cool and unique an egg is??

It’s an amazing thing.

Maybe if you get your eggs from the super market, it’s hard to see their uniqueness. But when you get them from a chicken you have in your backyard, it’s a completely different experience.

Each egg is unique to it’s chicken. Some lay eggs that have very thin shells, some have harder, sturdier shells.

They lay different shades of brown/beige eggs. Some are bumpy and have lots of little spots. Some are smooth.

Some are tall and “skinny”, some are more round, and some eggs are really pointy.

Anyway, they are beautiful, and I love it that God took the time to make that unique. A chicken egg, that we use without giving a second though. We break the shell, get the egg out, and never think about their looks.

I hope you will never look at an egg the same way again. I hope it will help you realize that God loves us so much that he took his time with something as mundane as an egg, to continue to show his care for us!

These are eggs from Rhode Island Red chickens. Look at all the differences.

Oh, and if you never have, you must try a fresh egg from a backyard chicken. It’s amazing! And this, from a city girl!!

Have you been there? I am there right now. I know I should be creating things, but I don’t seem to be able to. I have ideas of grandeur, but even picking up a pencil seems like too much effort.

Something in me really wants to paint and draw, but I sabotage my own efforts by coming up with reasons why it can’t or won’t happen.

Here are some reasons:

I don’t have enough time to get in a zone

I will be interrupted by my kids

I don’t know what to create

I need to cook/clean/do the laundry

I don’t have a studio or a proper place to work in

If it’s not that, I end up spending too much time on the computer on facebook(which I’m currently taking a break from) or even looking at art, photography, tutorials, ideas for other projects, and I do just that– look, and don’t do or make anything.

Is anybody familiar with this behavior? What do you do when you get there, to just kick-start your creativity? How do you get out of the mire? How do you overcome accomplishing much, with little time?

I think since doing the mural for the church, I have been in this creative desert.

I have been praying alot about this next step as it concerns my art and my time and efforts. So maybe now I need to start acting…..

Would love your thoughts….

Yesterday I decided to be experimental, and since I had some coffee leftover, I thought I’d paint “watercolor”, in coffee. This happens to be one of my favorite farms around the area we are now living. I love the fence meandering thru the hills. I wish I could visit, and take pictures within it as well, but I don’t think it’s open to the public.

After fiddling around with it for about an hour or so, I figured out that the coffee was not giving me the contrast I needed for a monochromatic piece. I then picked a dark sepia colored pencil, and worked thru part of today to finish it. I still intend to do another place tonight, but this is yesterday’s posting– belated.

I’m happy with the piece as a whole. I enjoyed restricting myself to one color. And although the experiment didn’t work, I’m still glad I tried.

Has anyone worked with coffee before? I have some seen some great things, but could not reproduce the same results. Any ideas?
