Over the weekend, I was commissioned to do a custom piece.
This experience is teaching me lots.
I spent time calculating my time, and what I should charge.
I spent some more time doing some well valued research, in order to make sure the client and I were on the same page as to the visual direction.
I spent time buying some of the materials needed to accomplish this project.
I spent time thinking and mulling it over in my head. I even told a few people some of my ideas, to see what their response would be. So far, everyone seems to think it’s a good idea.
Today, I spent some quick moments at the library, and made it a point to get some books that had pictures concerning the subject matter I will have to paint. Book reference is great!
It feels like everything is falling into place.
Today I am taking some pictures, for the main aspect of this project.
After all that, I will start making the drawing which will then be transferred to the final painting surface.
Exciting stuff. I’m finally starting to feel like I’m living like an artist.
Still need to do more artwork weekly, though!

Yup. The arts show is over.
One might say I can relax, but that would not be the case. Now I can get back to all the household duties which I neglected for about 2 weeks.
While preparing for the show, I told my husband that if I sold one original piece, I’d be giddy, and therefore, I am very giddy! I sold an original ink and colored pencil drawing. I will be matting it and delivering it to the new owner soon.
I also sold a few photo prints and photo cards.
I didn’t make back all the money I spent to get ready for the show, but it’s a real good start.
I loved the experience and learned alot.
I am excited to start preparing for the next one.
Now the deeper questions begin, and a new artistic journey begins to form. I am excited!
I still hope to start making connections for commission pieces. If there’s something you– reader would like to have for your walls, maybe this is your chance to invest in some art, and talk to me about your visions. I would love to make it happen.
